What you need:
- Old t-shirts, dish towels, or otherwise soft fabric.
- Mediumish-sized storage container: Something like a 2 or 5 gallon bucket or small plastic garbage can. Preferablly something with a lid.
- Empty liquid dish-soap bottle.
- Empty re-usable baby wipe container (ie with a lid)
Preparation:
- Cut up fabric into 5-7 inch squares. Make enough depending on how often you want to wash them, how big your family is, etc.
- Fold the squares in half and stack in the baby wipe container.
- Fill the dish washing soap bottle with water.
- Keep the container and water bottle in a convenient location near toilet.
Usage:
- You can do this different ways, but I always just dropped a little water (from the dish soap bottle) onto the stack of cloths in the baby wipe container. Then I just used all the cloths that were wet, one at a time. You can also just pull out one cloth at a time and use the dish soap bottle to wet each individually.
- Wipe. 🙂
- Drop wipe into the storage container.
Cleaning:
- Empty storage container into washing machine.
- Do a cold rinse or cold quick wash without detergent.
- Wash with detergent in hot water. This step CAN be combined with regular laundry.
- Dry.
- Fold cloths and put back in baby wipe container.
When we first had kids- we were big into cloth diapers and saving money. We used family cloth until I think we had our fourth child. At that point it was just easier to go back to TP. But we used family cloth for about 5 years. It IS possible to live without TP.
